Urban/Industrial Alternative Pub Wedding – Nicola & Scott
IF YOU LOVE SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT THEN YOU’LL FIND INSPIRATION FROM THIS FUN, INFORMAL PUB WEDDING!
This lovely couple were already married when they got in touch with me. They were planning a wedding celebration in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter with all their friends & family. I was really excited about their exciting plans for a chilled out wedding bash at a city centre pub!
Nicola & Scott
Nicola & Scott wanted a really relaxed, informal pub wedding. They wanted loads of candid, natural photographs of themselves & their guests enjoying their day. This lovely pair told me how they met, ‘We were university friends and lived in buildings next to each other. We were then housemates in our final years and the rest is history! Together for 13 years when we tied the knot 🙂 ‘
Getting Hitched- Birmingham Registry Office
Nicola and Scott tied the knot with the formalities at Birmingham Registry Office. They had a very small group of guests in attendance then they planned a big wedding bash for later in the month.
The Wedding Party – The Button Factory Birmingham
The wedding celebration was at The Button Factory in The Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham City Centre. It’s perfect for an alternative, chilled out wedding. The interior has an industrial, Brooklyn Loft feel to it, a great background for photographs. There is also an outdoor balcony space which is ideal for people to relax on a summers evening.
Nicola wore a black & red corseted dress that looked really great on her. What Nicola said about the dress ‘It was a really great find – I knew i wanted an alternative style dress and i saw them on social media in January saying they were having an ex-show piece sale – i went in and it was the first dress i tried on! so i got it at a great price. it had a few scuffs but nothing you’d notice unless looking really closely.’
Nicola & Scott’s wedding had a kind of DIY Wedding feel to it as they made it really personal by asking family & friends to help with the decor & sweet treats. These were on display near the entrance, with yummy vegan brownies & cookies. Nicola said ‘We didn’t have any flowers and decorated with things we already owned and we had some amazing friends who helped out and made the day really special. i know ours was a non-traditional, more relaxed wedding but it was still an incredible day and the family and friends made it for us, rather than wedding favours or flowers.
The pub provided all the food – they were great – we had a tasting session with them and they basically gave us free reign on their menu to pick and choose whatever we wanted and we just ordered loads of it all!
The Photo Ops
This wedding was one of my favs from last year, I just loved the laid back feel to it! I loved that Nicola & Scott did most of the little finishing touches themselves. Their family & friends were an inspiration to photographs as they were so colourful & full of life, real characters & friendly too! The Button Factory is a great backdrop for photographs from it’s industrial lighting & exposed walls to the great outdoor space on the balcony.
Nicola & Scott did not want any formal shots at all really, we did a handful of small family group photographs & luckily the guys agreed to do some couples shots around the Jewellery Quarter together!
Advice from the couple about planning your wedding
The couple says that if you’re planning your wedding, the biggest piece of advice they could give you is: ” I think overall we count ourselves very lucky to have found a relaxed accommodating venue and it all just fell in to place from there. We arranged it in 6 months and i know ‘traditional’ venues will be booked up well before that, but organising it quickly meant we couldn’t procrastinate too much or dwell on decisions for ages. And i think that helps with stress levels. I expect if you plan a wedding for a year and a half you could find it stressful for a year and a half. But just bear in mind if you have a summer wedding people start booking their summer holidays at the beginning of the year so try and do a ‘save the date’ email or message as soon as you know so you don’t find lots of people are away over it. We sent ours out in Feb!”
